Hey Aishwarya. You’d asked this earlier too – and that’s what made me make this forum. So thanks.

This again is a complicated topic. More so because the statement itself is disputed. A lot of research suggests that while men start off with faster weight loss, over time both genders equal out. But in any case, here are the top 3 reasons why men lose weight faster and easier:

1. More lean muscle: On an average, women have 8-10% more body fat than men. This is natures way of helping them with child-bearing etc. And more muscle means a higher metabolic rate. Which means more calories burnt with the same physical exercise. So that’s advantage 1.
2. More Testosterone. No Estrogen. So men have the dice loaded in their favor on this bit too.
3. This one is a personal observation – and a big generalisation – but in many cases I see men playing a sport or doing some outdoor activity along with a diet while women rely more on diets. And food is 70% of the answer, but it isn’t the entire answer. And any physical activity reaps larger results for men due to point 1.

But having said all that, you should also know that nature built women to carry a bit more fat and that aint a bad thing. As long as you get stronger and feel stronger everyday, you shouldn’t worry too much about fat. It’s much more important for women to work on building lean mass and strengthening their core. That’s a much much more rewarding journey and will even the playing field in the long run.
